2nd Western Black Sea Health Sciences Symposium Held

“Building the Future in Health: Career, Development, and Life-Saving Skills”

The 2nd Western Black Sea Health Sciences Symposium, organized by Karabük University Faculty of Health Sciences, was successfully held on October 10, 2025.
This year’s theme, “Building the Future in Health: Career, Development, and Life-Saving Skills,” emphasized the importance of career planning, professional growth, and emergency response competencies in the field of health sciences.

The symposium began with a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem, followed by opening speeches.
In their opening remarks, Professor Müslüm KUZU, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reyhan AYDIN DOĞAN, Head of the Midwifery Department and Chair of the Symposium, highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development in health sciences.

The first session, titled “Career Journey: Build Your Future!”, was chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Merve AKINCI and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül OKSAY ŞAHİN.
In this session, Lecturer Abdulkadir ILGAZ delivered his presentation on “First Communication and Beyond in the Career Journey”; İsmail KİBAR presented “Psychological Resilience in Career Journey”; Professor Gülay GÜNAY discussed “Being a Woman in the Workforce”; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reyhan AYDIN DOĞAN shared insights in her talk on “Career Journey in Health Professions.”

After the lunch break, the session titled “Life-Saving Foundations: Electrocardiography and First Aid” was held under the chairmanship of Assist. Prof. Dr. Rabia GÖRÜCÜ.
During this session, Paramedics Merve BİÇER ADIYAMAN, Nevzat ADIYAMAN, and Faruk TÜMEN delivered presentations emphasizing the clinical importance of basic life support and ECG practices.

In the Professional Development Workshops section held in the afternoon, the First Aid Workshop was conducted by Paramedic Merve BİÇER ADIYAMAN, and the CPR (Basic Life Support) Workshop was led by Paramedic Nevzat ADIYAMAN.
Participants had the opportunity to improve their practical skills through hands-on training.

The final session of the day, titled “Kites of Hope: Supporting Children with Autism,” was chaired by Lecturer Abdulkadir ILGAZ.
This session focused on raising awareness and promoting social sensitivity towards children with autism.

The symposium, which attracted great interest throughout the day, concluded with closing remarks and a certificate presentation ceremony.
Participants expressed that the event was highly beneficial for both professional and personal development.
