By virtue of a collaboration protocol signed between the Ministry of Health and the Council of Higher Education, the Karabük Health College, affiliated with Zonguldak Karaelmas University, was established on November 22, 1996. With the establishment of Karabük University on May 29, 2007, the Karabük Health College, which housed Nursing and Midwifery departments, became part of Karabük University. The Nursing department admitted its first students in the academic year 2010-2011 and graduated its inaugural class in the academic year 2014-2015.
Through the Cabinet Decision numbered 2016/8969 published in the Official Gazette dated 03/08/2016, the Health College was closed, and the Faculty of Health Sciences, encompassing the Nursing department, was established within Karabük University. Currently, the Nursing Department operates under the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Upon successful completion of the four-year undergraduate program in Nursing, students are awarded a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and acquire the title of "Nurse." According to the Nursing Law, a Nurse is authorized and responsible for implementing treatments prescribed in writing by physicians except in emergency situations, identifying healthcare needs that can be met through nursing interventions for individuals, families, and communities in any setting, planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating nursing care within the framework of nursing diagnosis process. Nurses are expected to possess fundamental nursing concepts in line with developments in science and technology, exhibit sensitivity to professional and ethical principles, demonstrate a willingness for learning and research, problem-solving skills, and provide comprehensive care to individuals, families, and communities. The aim is to train nurses capable of meeting the demand for quality nursing both in Turkey and globally in the future.
Graduates of the program, upon completion, are employed in preventive, curative, and rehabilitative capacities in both public and private healthcare institutions such as universities, state hospitals, schools, nursing homes, dialysis centers, medical centers, family health centers, private hospitals, and clinics. Additionally, they may pursue postgraduate studies and take up roles in institutions of higher education.
Within our University's Graduate Education Institute, our Nursing Department is represented as the Department of Nursing Science, where we offer the Nursing Science Thesis-based Master's Program and the Mental Health Nursing Thesis-based Master's Program.
